Very very sad news… some time ago RedHat has killed off CentOS which make CentOS enthusiats around the world angry. As we all know that CentOS is actually cloning version of the RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), so all the source code is derived from RHEL and all binary code is also 100% compatible with RHEL.
So, CentOS is actually free version of the RedHat Enterprise Linux with widely community support from around the world. And of course, some peoples on CentOS is actually RedHat members and they work for RedHat company to get money.
You can use RHEL in free since it actually open-source distribution system, but you would pay them in order to get full-support from RedHat. It not cheap to use RHEL, so many web hosting provider more prefered to use CentOS to run cPanel-WHM or Plesk panel on their server, instead of RHEL.
So, what is CentOS Stream??? CentOS Stream is actually preview and development version of the next release for the RedHat Enterprise Linux. RedHat say that they using CentOS Stream as new Linux development platform to increase transparency and collaboration for RHEL members. Unlike the previous CentOS Linux which is positioned between Fedora and RHEL.
It similar to Fedora which have short lifecycle release, but always using the latest technologies and software on their system. While CentOS and RHEL is very stable distribution system, so it very suitable for web hosting company.
CentOS 8 now only having 1 year suport (not 10 years like CentOS 5, 6, and 7), since RedHat has killed of CentOS Linux.
So, if you want to moving from CentOS 8 Linux to CentOS 8 Stream, simply read the following tutorial. It easy enough to converting from the CentOS Linux to CentOS Stream.
